Who is authorized to administer Deep TMS treatment?

BrainsWay’s Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS™) is a noninvasive, proven effective treatment that utilizes electromagnetic fields to safely regulate neural activity linked to various mental health conditions. Medical centers that wish to include Deep TMS among the treatment options offered to their clients must adhere to specific local government laws, and to insurance plans that stipulate who will be reimbursed when offer this treatment.

In the US, for example, privileges to prescribe Deep TMS vary by state. While psychiatrists can universally offer Deep TMS treatment, many states allow other physicians, as well as nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, and prescribing clinical psychologists to do so, too.

In a similar vein, different insurance providers may define a different list of healthcare professionals that can provide (and be reimbursed for) Deep TMS treatment. This means healthcare professionals interested in prescribing or administering Deep TMS therapy should contact their clients’ insurance providers to ensure they are covered by their respective plans, and that the professionals themselves will be reimbursed for the treatments they administer.

Deep TMS is FDA-cleared to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in the US, and is CE-marked to treat these and a number of other mental health conditions in Europe. Additionally, many insurance companies are looking to offer Deep TMS to their clients due to its growing popularity. As a result, individuals wishing to undergo the treatment who are not covered for it may contact their insurance provider and ask about Deep TMS coverage, since in some cases single-case agreements may be possible.
